Au Pair's Message to Families

Hi, dear family! Fist of all, I want to thank you for reading my profile! I will surely enjoy speaking to you and knowing you.

My name is Mariana, I'm 23, and I'm Brazilian. I graduated in Letters/Languages in the end of 2010 and I've been teaching English for two years now. I like to teach both adults and children and I have had really good experience with kids, specially when you feel that you are actually helping people to achieve their goals and learn a new language. This is a letter a group of students from my hometown wrote to me when I was moving to another city:

"Mari, I'll miss you a lot! ?

As time goes by, we know new people, but like most of the times, they go away. Actually, they don't go away, they just follow a different path from us. It hurts to know that some days from now we will enter in that classroom and we will not see that person who would always smile when she saw us, who used to share smiles, chats and even scolding us. Looking back when you scolded us, we will miss even this. But to miss doesn't mean that it all must be forgotten, the moments we lived together will always be in our minds and, telling the truth, missing a person is the best proof that everything we lived was special and worth it. So, today, as much as we wanted to have you around, we are happy for you, because your trailling a path in which you will be happy and we want to thank you for having taught us and corrected our mistakes when necessary. And you can be sure of it: we will never forget you, because in some moments of our lives we know incredible people and, as time passes by, we notice that they are now unforgettable and we find out that even time can erase those moments. Mariana, thank you for existing and being a part of our lives."

This letter is so intense that everytime I read it I feel like crying. I love children and being around them makes me feel really good. (there is a picture of these students who wrote the letter in my wall). They were 14 years old when I taught them. I like to take photographs, to travel, to hang out with my family, friends and boyfriend. I have two dogs, both of them are adorable! I love nature and being in contact with it... I have a 3-year-old niece, she's really lovely *-* (there is a picture of me and her in my wall) I enjoy simple things like going to the beach, to the mall or to the movie theater (I love movies too!). I like dancing, listening to music and swimming. I have never gone skiing or any snow sports (since I have never seen the snow), but I think they must be wonderful! I don't usually drink and I don't smoke. I like pets very much. I love to play video game, play with kids and I also enjoy reading (specially fantasy books, like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Percy Jackson, Eragon, and so on). Nowadays I'm reading "A Clash of Kings", by George R. R. Martin. It's a very interesting story, but a little hard as well. I am beginning to study French and I find it to be a really beautiful language! If you like it, I can give you my ex-boss and nowaday boss so you can talk to them about me (or, if you prefer, they can write letters). Both of them speak English.
