Au Pair's Message to Families

Hello, I am Iris and 22 years old. I was an Au Pair from November 2009 till June 2011. I really enjoyed taking care of my kids. I changed families after half of my stay but both of them were from Denver, CO. At the first family i took care of 2 kids (boy 5y, girl 2y) and at the second family i had 4 girls (1, 3, 5 and 7). Especially the second family won my heart and it was very hard to leave them.

My background: Im coming from Innsbruck, the capital city of Tyrol in Austria. The school I visited until June 2009 was a secondary school for graphic and design. With my graduation now I am a full skilled graphic designer. I live with my parents, my brother Markus (24) and my little sister Anja (18) in an appartment in the center of Innsbruck. I love to live here because I have many people around me and if I want to enjoy nature or want to go somewhere else I just have to drive 20 minutes and I am in the middle of a forest or on a mountain. My whole family and me are very athletic and everybody is doing different free time activities. I am in a good relationship with my parents and my siblings even if we are not doing so many free time activities together. My brother Markus and I have similar interest and we are doing a lot of things together like going out, playing beach volleyball or me watching him playing American Football.

I love children and every time I am spending time with them it makes me happy. In 2006 I made an education for a youth group leader. At summer that year I was staying for a week in a camp with 6-12 years old children. I did a lot of spare time activities with them like playing games or doing handicrafts. Since that I was driving monthly with the “Playbus” through Tyrol making public parties for children. We had different themes like the middle age, circus, water games... We were dressing us up and playing games which matches with the themes. Sometimes we were dancing, having barbeque or painting the children’s faces. Seeing the children smiling when they like their painted faces means so much for me and then I know anew why I am driving around in my spare time doing public parties.
