Au Pair's Message to Families
Dear host family,
My name is Qi (my friends call me Cindy) from Shanghai, China. I am 23 years old. You might be familiar with landmarks such as “The Bund” and “The Pearl Tower” in my city. If you want to visit Shanghai I would be delighted to show you around.
I would like to introduce myself first. I am a very friendly, out-going, patient, reliable and active person. My family and friends all say that I am a very independent, responsible and caring person. I am grateful for their support every day.
My parents have brought me up to be a very independent person and have allowed me to make my own choices since a very young age because of their busy work schedule (my father runs a bronze production factory and my mother is a quality control inspector). And as a result , I started living on my own since I was 16 years old, I lived in the childcare school during 3 years of study.
My love for children has led me to become a kindergarten teacher’s assistant for the past 4 years. Being around by children everyday has taught me to appreciate the small things in life and that happiness can be obtained from the simplest things. I’ve gotten official certificates in teaching kindergarten children, taking care of toddlers and also in teaching Mandarin through Pinyin. So if you have small children in the house to take care of, I have both the experience and the qualifications. Moreover, I majored in Education in college.
I’ve worked at Kindergarten for 4 years, which is an international Kindergarten, and I work in Nursery class. Our children are between 1.5 to 3 years old. I have been trained to take care of infants and toddlers in all aspects of everyday life. Like teaching them how to wash their hands, brush their teeth, take off their clothes and shoes. There are also training programs where we learned how to feed, change diapers, and potty training. I also learned how to react in case of injury or emergency. I am required to speak English at work, so I am very familiar with every day English, especially English vocabulary related to working with infants.
I love every child, and we are like a family. Sometimes kids will call me “sister” or “Cindy Mummy”I know that means they really love me and knowing I am making a difference in their life, I feel proud of that. I take every kid as my own child. It's not easy for them to leave their parents and be together with bunch of kids at this age. I hold them, tell stories, talk to them and change their diapers just as their moms would do. Sometimes some kids just wouldn’t take a nap, in that case I would hold them and sing to them gently. They are all lovely kids with good hearts and they can feel the true love from me. They would wish me happy teachers' day in their cute voices and draw me little pictures . We are like one big family who truly love each other.
My hobbies are making handicrafts such as knitting or making pop-ups from cardboard and paper – these old school activities may have come from being around children a lot and being required to make such artworks. I also enjoy drawing sketches about kids, and making clay animals for kids. I play badminton with my friends during weekends or go to parks sometimes. In summertime, I swim a lot. It's always fun to be with friends. During the weekend, I often go to play badminton with my friends, or boating in the park. In summer, we’ll go to swimming pool and have a great time together. This year I have got my driver’s license, and during the Chinese New Year, I drove my family to Su Zhou for a few days away from home. My dad was beside me and coaching, and he thought I did a great job driving. I sometimes drive my friend’s car to practice driving. I drove out during rush hours or when the weather was bad. I think it won’t be a problem for me to drive in the States once I get familiar with the rules and road conditions there.
To be honest, I have been thinking of joining Au pair for a couple of years and now, I am ready. As I have gotten older, I have realized that everyone needs an edge to get ahead in life and I believe that the Aupair experience would do exactly that to me. I want to experience life to the fullest, I want to see different things and learn different lifestyles. This is my opportunity to see the world, and after the Auipair year, I will continue my career as a kindergarten teacher. I really enjoy working with young children, and I would like to extend that experience of getting into a family. I would like to use this opportunity to improve my English and learn about Western culture. It would be my great pleasure to bring some Chinese elements into your family if you like. I hope I have the honor to share this with you! Sincerely Yours,
Cindy and last year i work for a family in DC for a year! so i am already have visa and now i'm living in boston.
